How I got tricked into buying something expensive. Read and Learn how to be a wise consumer- PART 1.
Are you a shopping girl or boy? Are you a student hoping to save money?
If you think you know how to buy something based on your preference and not because you were forced to, think again.
Here is a simple story of how I got tricked into buying something expensive.
There is a supermarket that I love buying items from. It is located thirty minutes away from my house.
I needed something from that supermarket, so I prepared myself to get it.
When I arrived at the supermarket, the line for payment of goods was quite long. I chose to hang around before it got to my turn.
There was another item that caught my attention. I walked closer to it and saw it was a bottle of fura yogurt.
I suddenly became thirsty (long throat.. it never ends well). I checked my purse and discovered I still had 1000 naira remaining. The yogurt cost 1000 naira.
However, there was another brand of fura yogurt available for 350 naira. It was made using the same ingredients as the first one.
I was unaware of it at the time.
My thoughts went like this: “If this 500ml is worth 1000 naira and this other one is worth 350 naira, then the one worth 1000 naira will be of superior quality.”
Mind you, they were of the same size and quantity. I chose to buy the expensive one for no reason.
At that time, no one forced me to buy the expensive yogurt. I chose to buy the expensive yogurt and forgo the cheaper yogurt because I believed it would be richer in nutrients.
I later realized how foolish I had been. Both of them tasted the same.
It has happened many times. You may be influenced by the brand name and so on.
You may simply assume that the higher the price, the better the product. I am here to tell you that it isn’t so in most cases.
Another example is buying clothes from an expensive store rather than a store you can afford. Simply because you assume that a higher price range equals superior quality.
Don’t forget that higher prices don’t mean superior quality. It is merely a business tactic to get you to make a purchase.
Sellers don’t have to persuade or force you.
It is okay if you think the item is worth the price. But don’t be a foolish consumer and never question the high price tags placed on items.
Compare and contrast. See if it is worth it. Then go for it if you can afford it. It doesn’t make you poor or richer than other people.
It just makes you what I call a “wise consumer”.
